From distributing medications to administering first aid, our onsite medical team is responsible for ensuring the health of campers and staff. This is an opportunity to touch the lives of the children of Northwest Arkansas! In exchange for service, medical staff members enjoy comfortable lodging, meals in the chow hall, and opportunities to participate in camp activities.

Medical Staff sessions are broken into two week sessions with medical staff arriving on Saturdays!

What are the benefits of serving on the Medical Staff Team at CWE?

Most importantly, this is a chance to positively impact children in Northwest Arkansas by caring for them, encouraging them, and assuring them that they are loved! In exchange for service, medical staff members receive benefits such as tuition credit for their children to attend camp, comfortable lodging, meals at camp, opportunities to participate in camp activities, and a chance to positively affect the area of Northwest Arkansas.

One week of service earns two camper weeks of tuition, which means that two campers could attend for a one-week session at no charge, or one camper could attend a two-week session at no charge. Medical staff schedules are arranged so that each member of the team will have opportunities to participate in camp activities, such as the ropes course, swimming pools and crafts center!

Requirements for Camp War Eagle Medical Staff:

Physician:

1. Current medical license
2. Current CPR and ACLS certification

Registered Nurse:

1. Current Arkansas or reciprocal state nursing license
2. Current CPR certification

Paramedic:

1. Current Arkansas Paramedic License
2. Current CPR certification

Camp War Eagle Physicians’ responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Review all medical protocols prior to arrival
2. Examine and treat staff and campers per medical protocols provided
3. Exam and treat campers and staff on a daily basis for any emergences such as but not limited to: lacerations, sprains, fractures, fever, asthma, allergic reactions, head injuries or seizures
4. Responding to emergencies and providing treatment per current ACLS and PALS guidelines
5. Documentation of all patient treatments, procedures, etc. in the camp based computer system
6. Implementation of Universal Precautions

Camp War Eagle Nurses’ responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Review all medical protocols prior to arrival
2. Providing 24/7 care for campers and staff per Camp War Eagle medical protocols
3. Screening campers for communicable diseases on arrival
4. Updating any changes on the campers’ health forms per parents or guardians
5. Receiving medications, understanding routines and storing properly by name and cabin number
6. Administration and documentation of prescription and over the counter medications and treatments to campers
7. Identification, treatment and documentation of routine health needs in a triage setting.
8. Implementation of health care plan
9. Promotion of preventative measures
10. Responding to emergencies and providing treatment per current PALS and ACLS guidelines
11. Transporting of campers to outside medical facilities if appropriate
12. Staying with a camper in the hospital setting
13. Attending special nighttime events and giving minor first aid
14. Supervising and caring for in-patients in the health center
15. Preparation of all prescription and over the counter medications for redistribution to the campers at the end of the session
16. Implementation of Universal Precautions

Camp War Eagle Paramedic responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Review all medical protocols prior to arrival
2. Providing 24/7 care for campers and staff per Camp War Eagle medical protocols
3. Screening campers for communicable diseases on arrival
4. Updating any changes on the campers’ health forms per parents or guardian
5. Identification, treatment and documentation of routine health needs in a triage setting
6. Implementation of health care plan per the physician’s direction.
7. Promotion of preventative measures
8. Responding to emergencies and providing treatment per current PALS and ACLS guidelines
9. Transporting of campers to outside medical facilities if appropriate
10. Staying with a camper in the hospital setting
11. Attending special nighttime events and giving minor first aid
12. Supervising and caring for in-patients in the health center
13. Implementation of Universal Precautions
